What is Formula SAE?
Formula SAE (FSAE) is an international collegiate engineering competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). This prestigious event challenges student teams from universities around the world to design, build, and compete with small, open-wheel, single-seater, formula-style race cars. It is a comprehensive competition that tests not only the engineering prowess of the participants but also their project management, teamwork, and business acumen. In the US there is an internal-combustion (IC) and an electric vehicle (EV) competiton held every year in May and June respectively, at Michigan International Speedway.
FSAE COMPETITION
The FSAE IC competition runs every year for four days in Brooklyn, Michigan. The first two days are reserved for “static events”: where the students formula car is technically inspected before it is reviewed by industry-professional judges who go over the cars design and the teams knowledge of engineering. After the car and team are meticulously looked over and inspected, the two days of “dynamic events” can start. That’s when we go head-to-head on the track against colleges from around the world.
